The Home Budget Houseware, Inc. (HBHI) is a Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, based company that sells plumbing fittings and residential exhaust fans. HBHI sold or offered for sale plumbing fittings and residential exhaust fans in California, from July 2015 to February 2019.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC's investigation and testing process identified that HBHI was manufacturing and offering for sale plumbing fittings and residential exhaust fans that did not meet the efficiency standard, failed the marking requirement, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, HBHI executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on December 31, 2019, for $55,249.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). HBHI has also agreed to a compliance plan redesign the non-compliant models to meet the efficiency standard, add the appropriate marking, and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
