iBUYPOWER is a City of Industry, California, based company that manufactures computers. iBUYPOWER sold or offered for sale high expandability computers, notebook computers and mobile gaming systems in California, from January 2019 to January 2023.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that iBUYPOWER was manufacturing and offering for sale high expandability computers, notebook computers and mobile gaming systems that did not meet the efficiency standard and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, iBUYPOWER executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on August 26, 2023, for $400,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). iBUYPOWER has also agreed to a compliance plan to correct the default setting that caused the non-compliant models to exceed the efficiency standard and certify all models to MAEDbs before continuing to sell in California.
