KaTom Restaurant Supply (KaTom) is a company that manufactures cooking and refrigeration products based in Kodak, Tennessee. KaTom sold or offered for sale commercial refrigerators and freezers, automatic commercial ice makers, commercial convection ovens, and wine chillers in California, from June 2021 to June 2025.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation process identified that KaTom was manufacturing and offering for sale MoTak brand commercial refrigerators and freezers, automatic commercial ice makers, commercial convection ovens, and wine chillers that were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To resolve this matter, KaTom executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on June 18, 2026, for $250,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount as required in Public Resources Code section 25402.11. KaTom has also agreed to a compliance plan to test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
