Living Direct, Inc. (Living Direct) is an Austin, Texas, based company that manufactures refrigeration products. Living Direct sold or offered for sale automatic commercial ice makers and miscellaneous refrigeration products (wine chillers) in California, from January 2018 to October 2020.

This case was the result of an industry complaint. The California Energy Commission's (CEC) investigation and testing process identified that Living Direct was manufacturing and offering for sale automatic commercial ice makers and wine chillers that were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Living Direct executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on April 14, 2021, for $80,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Living Direct has also agreed to a compliance plan to test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
