LPI, Inc. (LPI), is a Johnson City, Tennessee, based company that manufactures portable electric spas. LPI sold or offered for sale portable electric spas in California, from May 2016 to June 2019.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC's investigation and testing process identified that LPI was manufacturing and offering for sale portable electric spas that did not meet the efficiency standard and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, LPI executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on August 20, 2020, for $77,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). LPI has also agreed to a compliance plan to redesign the non-compliant models to meet the efficiency standard and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
