MAINGEAR, Inc. is a company that manufactures computers based in Warren, New Jersey. MAINGEAR, Inc. sold or offered for sale desktop computers and notebook computers in California, from August 2021 to August 2025.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that MAINGEAR, Inc. was manufacturing and offering for sale MAINGEAR brand desktop computers and notebook computers that were not marked properly and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To resolve this matter, MAINGEAR, Inc. executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on June 2, 2026, for $340,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount as required in Public Resources Code section 25402.11. MAINGEAR, Inc. has also agreed to a compliance plan to add the appropriate marking and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
