Metapo Inc., a San Jose, California based company that manufactures and distributes robotic vacuum cleaners using small battery charger systems, sold approximately 67 non-complaint units in California between July 2015 and March 2016. The California Energy Commission (CEC) staff tested one of these units at the California State University, Sacramento-College of Engineering Energy Efficiency Laboratory and found it to be in violation of the energy efficiency regulations governing small battery chargers. The CEC staff notified the manufacturer who reengineered their small battery chargers systems to comply with the regulations. They also included the required battery charger (BC) labeling/marking on each unit's battery charger system and in the product's literature as required by the regulations. The company is now in full compliance. To settle this matter, the company executed a settlement agreement with CEC on June 17, 2016 for $9232. Additionally, they have recertified all models in the CEC appliance efficiency database and provided engineering test reports demonstrating this compliance. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley).
