MWE Investments, Westinghouse Power Products (MWE) is a Columbus, Ohio, based company that manufactures electric start generators. MWE sold or offered for sale 278 electric start generators in California, during the period of February 2013 to June 2018.

This case was the result of an investigation conducted by California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) staff. The Energy Commission's investigation and testing process identified MWE manufacturing and offering for sale electric start generators containing a small battery charger system that failed the efficiency standard, failed the marking requirement, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS)

To settle this matter, MWE executed a Settlement Agreement with the Energy Commission on February 13, 2019, for $11,801.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). MWE has agreed to a compliance plan to redesign its products to meet energy efficiency standards, add the required marking, and certify all models to the MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
