Pyle USA (Pyle) is a Brooklyn, New York, based company that manufactures small battery charger systems, portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, coolers, televisions, and compact audio products. Pyle sold or offered these products for sale in California, from September 2016 to June 2021.

This case was the result of an internal tip. The California Energy Commission's (CEC) investigation and testing process identified that Pyle was manufacturing and offering for sale vacuum cleaners containing small battery charger systems, portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers, coolers, televisions, and compact audio products that were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS). The vacuum cleaners also did not meet the efficiency standard and failed the marking requirement.

To settle this matter, Pyle executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on January 12, 2022, for $70,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Pyle has also agreed to a compliance plan to redesign the non-compliant models to meet the efficiency standard, add the appropriate marking, and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
