Razer USA Ltd. (Razer) is an Irvine, California based company that manufactures computers. Razer sold or offered for sale mobile gaming systems in California, from February 2022 to April 2023.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that Razer was manufacturing and offering for sale mobile gaming systems that did not meet the efficiency standard and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Razer executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on October 16, 2023, for $300,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Razer has also agreed to a compliance plan to provide updated BIOS software to consumers to ensure compliance with efficiency standards and test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
