Sceptre, Inc. (Sceptre) is a company that manufactures computer monitors, televisions, and federally regulated battery chargers based in City of Industry, California. Sceptre sold or offered for sale computer monitors, televisions, and Bluetooth speakers in California, from September 2019 to September 2023.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that Sceptre was manufacturing and offering for sale computer monitors, televisions, and Bluetooth speakers that did not meet the efficiency standard, were not marked properly, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To resolve this matter, Sceptre executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on March 24, 2025, for $778,743.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount as required in Public Resources Code section 25402.11. Sceptre has also agreed to a compliance plan to discontinue sales of non-compliant models, add the appropriate marking, and test and certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
