Spectrum Brands Incorporated, Pfister Division (Pfister) is a Lake Forest, California, based company that manufactures plumbing fittings. From January 1, 2016 through March 10, 2016, Pfister offered for sale non-compliant units of kitchen faucets in California through various retailers and distributors.
The kitchen faucets either: did not meet the gallons per minute water efficiency standard, were not marked correctly per the Appliance Efficiency Regulations, or did not meet either requirement. Pfister discovered the problem internally and promptly reported the problem to California Energy Commission (CEC) staff, and pulled all non-compliant units from inventory.
To settle this matter, Pfister has executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on December 23, 2016, for $104,000.00. Pfister has also redesigned the kitchen faucets to meet compliance standards, tested all models to ensure that the water efficiency standard has been met, made the necessary corrections to the models listed in the Database, and added the required marking to the product and packaging. The company is now in full compliance. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011(Pavley).
