Tonusa, LLC (Tonusa) is a California based company that sells showerheads, manufactured in China. From September 2015 through December 2016, Tonusa sold or offered for sale non-compliant showerheads through Costco.

The California Energy Commission (Commission) staff tested one of these showerheads at the California State University, Sacramento - College of Engineering Energy Efficiency Laboratory and found it to be in violation of the Appliance Efficiency Regulations governing showerheads. These showerheads were not marked correctly and were not certified to the Appliance Efficiency Database (Database).

To settle this matter, Tonusa executed a settlement agreement with the Commission on April 24, 2017, for $20,000.00. Tonusa has also redesigned four different models of showerheads and will certify each model to the Database before selling in California. This investigation started as a result of a market survey completed by Office of Compliance Assistance and Enforcement staff. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011(Pavley).
