Yuasa Battery, Inc. is a Laureldale, Pennsylvania based company who manufactures a la carte battery chargers. From February 2013 to April 2017, Yuasa Battery, Inc. sold or offered for sale certain a la carte battery chargers in California.
This case was the result of a market survey performed by California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) staff. The Energy Commission's testing and investigation process identified Yuasa Battery, Inc. offering for sale through retailers and distributors certain a la carte battery chargers that were not certified to the Appliance Efficiency Database (Database), not marked appropriately, and did not meet the energy efficiency standard.
To settle this matter, Yuasa Battery, Inc. executed a settlement agreement with the Energy Commission on March 14, 2018, for $110,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Yuasa Battery, Inc. has also agreed to a compliance plan to test and certify all appliances to the Database and add the proper marking before continuing to sell into California.
