Yujin Robot, Inc., a Cerritos, California based company that manufactures and distributes robotic vacuum cleaners using small battery charger systems, sold approximately 504 units in California between January 2014 and March 2016 that were not listed in the California Appliance Efficiency Database (database), or marked with the required (BC) labelling. The California Energy Commission (CEC) staff tested one of these units at the California State University, Sacramento-College of Engineering Energy Efficiency Laboratory and found it to be in compliance with the energy efficiency regulations governing small battery chargers. The CEC staff notified the manufacturer who immediately tested and certified their units to the database. They also included the required battery charger (BC) labeling/marking on each unit's battery charger system and in the product's literature as required by the regulations. The company is now in full compliance. To settle this matter, the company executed a settlement agreement with CEC on July 28, 2016 for $39,000.00. The penalty was reduced due to financial hardship evidenced by Yujin Robot. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011(Pavley).
