Appliance Standards Water Savings

California appliance regulations, combined with federal standards, set minimum efficiency levels for energy and water consumption in products, such as consumer electronics, household appliances, and plumbing equipment. Annual water savings from recent California Energy Commission (CEC) standards reached $1.2 billion dollars during the year 2025.

This dashboard tracks the impacts of the 4 most recent efficiency standards put into effect by the Appliance Efficiency Program, including, Residential Faucets, Showerheads, Spray Sprinkler Bodies, and Water Closets. These metrics reflect the impact of actions taken by the CEC from 2006 to 2026, building on a legacy of improving performance and reducing utility bills via cost-effective minimum standards stretching back to 1978.
