This report entitled Public Plug-In Vehicle Charge Stations at Los Angeles Metro Transit Locations 2 is the final project report from Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) for the California Energy Commission grant number ARV-13-054. The project was undertaken in cooperation with EV Connect Inc. The primary objective of the project was: To expand opportunities for transit passengers to choose electric vehicles for first and last mile solutions by installing electric vehicle charging stations at a minimum of five LA Metro park and ride locations. The project also sought to do the following:
Measure the increase in number of electric vehicle owners who would not otherwise use transit if not for the chargers installed at park and ride locations throughout LA Metro transit network
Determine the avoided fuel and greenhouse gas emissions as a result of on-site electric vehicle charging
Determine operational issues in running an electric vehicle charger network
Some of the key results include the following:
Provided 2,100 charge sessions over the six-month period of data collection
Reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 15,300 kg CO2 and saved 1,900 gallons of gasoline
Built upon previous electric vehicle infrastructure projects, thus deepening LA Metro’s understanding of charging station utilization in a commuter setting
Grew LA Metro’s network of electric vehicle chargers and provided transit users access to additional charging infrastructure
Demonstrated and resolved the operational and maintenance challenges of operating a network of electric vehicle chargers
