Madera Unified School District Final Report

Madera Unified School District submitted an application to receive grant funding under the California Energy Commission (CEC) Solicitation GFO-17-607 to replace five old diesel school buses. Madera Unified School District was awarded funding for 5 vehicle-to-grid ready electric school buses and the supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Madera Unified School District purchased 5 electric school buses and installed 8 chargers through the CEC. The buses were placed into service and districts were offered workforce training to help support the successful deployment of the new electric fleet. The old, diesel-powered buses were also dismantled and removed from service. This project found that the electric school buses reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 897.24 short tons of GHGs, 2,347.07 pounds of NOx (oxides of nitrogen) and 16.26 lbs. of PM2.5. and that the electric school buses had a cost savings during the reporting period of $65,380.965
