Escalon Unified School District submitted an application to receive grant funding under the California Energy Commission (CEC) Solicitation GFO-17-607 to replace two (2) old diesel school buses. Escalon Unified School District was awarded funding for two (2) vehicle-to-grid ready electric school buses and the supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Escalon Unified School District purchased two (2) electric school buses and installed four (4) chargers through the CEC. The buses were placed into service on March 4, 2024 and districts were offered workforce training to help support the successful deployment of the new electric fleet. The old, diesel-powered buses were also dismantled and removed from service. This project found that the electric school buses reducedemissions by 0.344 short tons of NOx (oxides of nitrogen), 0.016 short tons of PM2.5., 0.026 short tons of HC, 0.061 short tons of CO, 21.6 short tons of CO2 and 1,924 gallons of fuels and that the electric school buses had a cost savings of $3,207.83during the reporting period.
