La Mesa Spring Valley School District submitted an application to receive grant funding under the California Energy Commission (CEC) Solicitation GFO-17-607 to replace nine old diesel school buses. La Mesa Spring Valley School District was awarded funding for nine vehicle-to-grid ready electric school buses and the supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. La Mesa Spring Valley School District purchased nine electric school buses and installed nine chargers through the CEC. The buses were placed into service in the 2021/22 school year, and the old, diesel-powered buses were dismantled and removed from service. This project found that the electric school buses reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1.112 short tons of oxides of nitrogen, 133.3 short tons of carbon dioxide, reduced 11,847 gallons of diesel, and resulted in a cost savings of $4,613 during the project’s 12-month reporting period.
