California Energy Commission staff, in consultation with Navigant Consulting, Inc., will conduct a workshop to introduce a prioritization methodology to rank potential distributed energy resource (DER) research needs and to solicit input from stakeholders to better characterize the status of DER technologies and strategies, and to identify barriers to efficient integration. This is the first of three public workshops to develop and prioritize DER research recommendations.

Agenda
The workshop will introduce a prioritization methodology to rank potential DER research needs and solicit input from stakeholders on what research needs, in addition to those identified in the DER Research Roadmap Technical Assessment, should be assessed to produce the final DER Research Roadmap. Workshop participants are expected to include DER providers, aggregators, developers, researchers, utilities, and end users. The Energy Commission will seek input on a variety of potential research topics, including the status of the technologies and strategies today as well as the identification of barriers currently limiting DER. The information gathered at this workshop will help inform research priorities for future grant funding opportunities through the Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC).

Staff is seeking input on:
1. Does the presented prioritization methodology provide a fair, efficient, and
comprehensive approach to prioritizing potential research needs?
2. What research needs (beyond those identified by the Technical Assessment)
should be considered by the Energy Commission?
