The feedback that the ombudsperson receives helps ensure that:
- The CEC’s grant programs are effective and efficient.
- The CEC's grant processes are clear and understandable.
- Grant applicants and recipients have a positive experience with the CEC.
- Independence—The ombudsperson reports to the CEC Chair David Hochschild, which is outside the CEC staff chain of command.
- Impartiality — The ombudsperson does not advocate for the grant applicant or recipient or the CEC, but relays the comments received and facilitates communications towards resolution, where possible. If requested, the ombudsperson may neutrally make recommendations to improve grant programs.
- Confidentiality—Grant applicants and recipients may confide in the ombudsperson without concern for reprisals because the comments will be relayed without attribution if requested. A grant applicant or recipient may also request that their comments be attributable. The ombudsperson will not testify about information received unless required by law.
The grants ombudsperson welcomes comments from grant applicants and recipients about all facets of the CEC’s grant programs.
The grants ombudsperson will meet CEC staff and leadership as appropriate to share comments and make recommendations as applicable.
The ombudsman will not discuss matters in litigation or make decisions or legal determinations for the CEC. Communications with the ombudsperson will not suspend or otherwise affect any statutory, regulatory, or other applicable deadlines.
