CRISP is established by Assembly Bill 209 (Chapter 251, Statutes of 2021) to help develop direct air capture technologies that use mechanical and chemical processes. Other technologies such as biochar, biomass burial, direct ocean capture, and soil carbon sequestration are not eligible.
Projects that benefit oil or gas production, processing, or refining facility are not eligible.
The CRISP Program is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment—particularly in disadvantaged communities.
