CSUS Executive Fellowship Program

The Executive Fellowship Program is sponsored by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, and the Office of the Governor to provide an experiential learning opportunity in California state government. California’s executive branch is one of the most dynamic in the United States. The fellows function as full-time professional staff in executive offices at various levels of California’s executive branch, including the Office of the Governor, constitutional offices, cabinet secretaries, commissions, and departments.

Stanford Energy Internships in California 

The Stanford Energy Internships in California provides students the opportunity to work alongside Energy Commission staff, gaining experience and knowledge in energy-related public service. The internships at the Energy Commission are in partnership with Stanford in Government, a nonpartisan, student-run organization dedicated to promoting political awareness, providing public service opportunities and fellowships, and assisting students in their search for quality experiences in the public policy arena.

Summer 2025 Law Clerkship with the Division of Petroleum Market Oversight

CLOSED FOR 2025

The Division of Petroleum Market Oversight (DPMO) is a new independent division of the California Energy Commission (CEC). DPMO is offering a summer clerkship for 1L and 2L law students. This clerkship will encompass investigative work, case development, and legal research.

The investigative work will involve evidence review, investigation design, and case management for complex antitrust and commodities manipulation investigations concerning the California petroleum fuels market. Additionally, it may involve preparing for and assisting with investigative interviews. Knowledge of antitrust law, accounting, finance, and/or white-collar investigations is desirable but not required. Knowledge of the petroleum industry is also highly valuable but not required.

The legal research work will be focused on the implementation of California’s new gasoline-related statutes, namely Senate Bill X1-2 (Stats. 2023, 1st Ex. Sess. 2023) and Assembly Bill X2-1 (Stats. 2024, 2nd Ex. Sess. 2024), each of which amended certain sections of chapter 4 of Division 15 of the Public Resources Code. It may include researching and drafting proposed regulations and updates under these code sections.

Knowledge of or familiarity with antitrust law, accounting, finance, and/or white-collar investigations is desirable but not required. Knowledge of or familiarity with the petroleum industry is also desirable but not required.
