The data shown in this web application accompany a final report that details the use and development of land-use screens for electric system planning in California. The report, titled Land-Use Screens for Electric System Planning: Using Geographic Information Systems to Model Opportunities and Constraints for Renewable Resource Technical Potential in California, is available in the CEC Energy Planning Library. The geospatial data layers provided in this viewer and explained in the report combine to form two screens – the Core Screen and SB 100 Terrestrial Climate Resilience Study Screen. These screens were designed for use in SB 100 modeling and the California Public Utilities Commission’s Integrated Resource Planning process. This web application provides an interface where the public can interact with, examine, and explore the data used to construct the base exclusions and the land-use screens used to inform resource and transmission planning. The data layers shown here are available for download at the CEC GIS Open Data page or by following the folder icon button in the bottom left corner of the web map.
CEC 2023 Land-Use Screens for Electric System Planning
Appropriate use: The geospatial land-use screens are intended to inform high-level estimates of technical renewable resource potential for electric system planning and should not be used, on their own, to guide siting of generation projects nor assess project-level impacts.
In the tool, you can:
- Search locations or places
- Toggle on or off layers or view a Legend showing the symbols for all active layers
- Select a different basemap
- Measure distances or areas
- Zoom in or out
- See the default map view
- Find information about the map
- Download a copy of the mapped data in various formats and learn more about each data layer.
