Biomass Resources
Biomass is derived from recently living organic materials. California’s principal sources of biomass include residues or wastes from forestry, agriculture and urban or municipal wastes. Forest treatments and other activities such as timber harvest and sawmill generate biomass while agriculture produces biomass as crop (e.g orchard wood and hulls), animal (e.g. manure) and processing residues. Organic fraction of urban wastes such as food wastes, green wastes, and wastewater and biosolids from municipal waste treatment are also resources for bioenergy.
