The TRRED will be the database for replacement tire efficiency in California. Tires specifications are required to be reported by the tire manufacturer. This database will be hosted on the CEC website and will be accessible by the public.

The Consumer Information Program will consist of the public TRRED database and educational materials about tire efficiency.

Pursuant to Assembly Bill 844 (Nation, Chapter 645, Statutes of 2003), an upcoming CEC Staff Report will propose new regulations to:

  1. Develop and maintain a database of tire efficiency information for replacement tires sold in California, known as the Tire Rolling Resistance Efficiency Database (TRRED).
  2. Develop and administer a consumer information program and rating system to inform drivers about the benefits of efficient tires.
  3. Set reporting requirements for manufacturers.
  4. Set minimum performance standards for efficiency of replacement tires.
  5. Set a minimum performance standard for wet grip, to ensure safety.
