The late Barbara Crowley was appointed to the California Energy Commission on February 17, 1984. She filled the environmentalist position for a five-year term and was reappointed on January 6, 1989. Governor George Deukmejian named Ms. Crowley Vice Chair of the Commission in 1985 and reconfirmed her in 1987. Ms. Crowley retired from the Commission in January 1994.
Ms. Crowley died in June 1996, following a short illness.
Ms. Crowley served as Presiding Member on the Commission's Conservation Report and Programs Committee and the International Trade Program Committee and Waste-to-Energy Committee.
Ms. Crowley also served as Second Member of the Commission's Budget and Management Committee, the 1993 Energy Plan Committee, and the Efficiency Standards Committee.
Ms. Crowley was the former managing owner of walnut, prune, almond and olive acreage in Tehama and Glenn Counties. She was a Supervisor in Tehama County from 1974 to 1982, and Chairwoman for the Tehama County Board of Supervisors in 1978 and 1982. In 1981, Ms. Crowley was President of the Regional Council of Rural Counties, and in 1981 and 1982 was Chairwoman of the National Association of Counties Public Lands Committee and in 1982 of the County Supervisors Association of California Committee on Resources and Energy Policy.
Ms. Crowley had a California Life Teaching Credentials in Elementary and Secondary Education. A native of Los Angeles, she was a graduate of Stanford University.
