

Maunee Sanchez is the director of the Office of Compliance Assistance and Enforcement at the California Energy Commission (CEC). She oversees the work of enforcing the Title 20 and Title 24 energy efficiency requirements for appliances and buildings.
The office works closely with appliance manufacturers, retailers, test laboratories, and the building community to ensure only energy and water efficient buildings and appliances are available to California consumers, saving them money and protecting the environment.
Sanchez began at the CEC in 2012 doing compliance and enforcement work with the Efficiency Division’s Appliance Office. She was a founding member of the team that formed the Compliance Assistance and Enforcement Office, and was instrumental in creating the regulations, processes, and infrastructure of the appliance enforcement program. As an investigator, she collected over $4.5 million in penalties, becoming a supervisor in 2020, then manager, and most recently director in 2024.
Before joining the CEC, she had a successful career in the financial services industry as a branch office compliance manager, financial advisor, and operations specialist.
Sanchez has a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University, Sacramento.
