California Energy Commission Temporary Profile Placeholder

Spencer Reeder is the director for the California Energy Commission’s Fuels and Transportation Division.

The division ensures that adequate and reliable transportation energy and infrastructure is provided to the state’s transportation sector while balancing economic, public health, safety, and environmental impacts.

Reeder’s career spans more than 20 years in transportation, energy, climate policy, and technology innovation. His most recent role was director of government affairs and
sustainability in the U.S.  for the automaker Audi, where he led policy development for zero emission vehicles, alternative fuels, energy policy and charging infrastructure. He also guided the company’s first U.S. sustainability strategy. Reeder previously directed transportation electrification and climate initiatives for Paul G. Allen Philanthropies and served as lead climate policy strategist at the Washington State Department of Ecology. 

He earned his bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the University of Washington and his master of science in aerospace engineering sciences from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Reeder is also an avid outdoorsperson who enjoys mountaineering, skiing, and hiking. In 2025, he completed a multiyear hike along the Pacific Crest Trail.
